Envia Systems is stating at the ARPA-E conference which it has achieved a major milestone: a rechargeable lithium-ion power supply with an “energy density” associated with 400 watt-hours per kg, the highest energy solidity known to be recorded for just a rechargeable lithium-ion cell.

When commercialized, this particular 400 Wh/kg battery predicted to slash the buying price of a 300 kilometer range electric car or truck by cutting the price tag on the battery pack by means of more than 50 percent.

Envia stated its batteries were tested at 600 watt-hours per kilogram with a projected cost of $125 for every kilowatt-hour, which is more energy dense than the majority of batteries and less as compared to half of what car manufacturers are paying now, according to the company.

The evaluating of Envias next-generation lithium-ion battery seemed to be performed by the Electrochemical Ability Systems Department on the Naval Surface Warfare Middle (NSWC) in Crane, Ind., underneath the sponsorship of ARPA-E.

Tests in various cycling premiums at NSWC confirmed that will Envias automotive battery wireless demonstrated energy mass between 378-418 Wh/kg for prices between C/3 to C/10 for any 45 Amp-hour (C/3) cell. Equivalent cells have been bicycle in Envias test a lab for over 300 fertility cycles.

Envia is at a model phase and foresees the item taking at least four years before commercial construction.

Envia Systems is a Silicon Valley startup founded in 2007, based in Newark CA, along with a prototyping and manufacturing unit in Jiaxing China.

The provider received a $4 , 000, 000 ARPA-E award in the Great Energy Density Lithium Electric battery program.

General Motors is one kind of Envias high profile investors, and invested $7 million in Envia about a year ago. General motors has said that Envia will supply battery technology to get future generations of GMs Voltage plug-in hybrid. Other buyers in Envia include Japanese giant Asahi Kasei, Pangaea Ventures, along with Redpoint Ventures.

The company got a $4 million ARPA-E give in the High Energy Density Lithium Batteries method.[wzslider height=”400″ lightbox=”true”]
